Loading Film:
Film type - Ilford Hp5 Plus 400 5x4 black and white film. This film is high speed with fine grain and medium contrast. It is good for all conditions and flexible when processing and is good for ISO upto 3200.
- You load your film in complete darkness, as the film is light sensitive. When you get your box of film, it is packaged as a box within a box, making sure it is light tight.
- To tell which way is your emulsion side, there should be a small cut out in the top right corner of the film.
To load the film:
1. Take the dark slide out of the side you want to put it in
2. Open the flap at the bottom of the film holder
3. Place the film under the film guides, this will keep the film flat and in place in the holder(making sure emulsion side is out, this will be by the cut out being in the right corner)
4. Close the flap at the bottom of the film loader and place the dark slide back in(making sure it is silverside out, to show it is unexposed film) repeat for the otherside of the film holder. (When you expose the film change the dark slide to black side out).
To make sure the dark slide stays in and does not expose the film, use the small hooks to keep the slide down.
Developing Film:
- You develop the negatives in trays; because of the size of their negs and can control processing time, and get even development.
- Be careful because emulsion side can get scratched easily.
- 1st negative should always be at the top in every part of the development.
The development:
1. Pre Soak tray - 1litre of water at 20degrees: 1 minute
2. Developer - ID11(fine grain developer) 1 water: 1 developer: 13 minutes
agitate the photos every 15 seconds, bringing the bottom photo to the top.
Half way through turn all the photos around (starts processing straight away).
3. Stop - 1 minute
4. Fix - 5 minutes
5. 2 washes - cycle 10 times
6. Developer gets put in waste bin; Stop and Fix back in its bottles.
